GTA 6 has become an urban legend.
There are people who were born, went to the army, broke up, and are still waiting. And now, Rockstar did it again: the classic move — another delay.
The new release date is May 26, 2026.
If all goes well. Which is a big if.
Others release games. Rockstar releases our sanity.
Originally, it was set for Fall 2025. Then… “just a bit more polishing.” Fair enough — GTA 5 still plays like it dropped yesterday.
But when you’ve left your fanbase thirsty for 12 years, you don’t just say, “hang on for one more year.”
Things that happened before GTA 6:
- Since the 2022 announcement, BattlenetGS released 6 games on BNETGG
- Keanu Reeves joined Cyberpunk expansions AND became a Fortnite skin
- Overwatch was launched and shut down
- Elon Musk got exposed for being boosted
- Epic got sued, paid, and handed out V-Bucks
- League of Legends reworked Skarner — and we still don’t have a second trailer
- Microsoft Flight Simulator launched — where you fly real planes
- Ninja stopped streaming, came back, and disappeared again
- The Day Before devs said “game canceled” and became TikTokers
- We got Lineage 3 / Eternal / Throne & Liberty — call it whatever
- Battlenet launched its Balkan invasion
- And Drake… dropped 4 albums
What did Rockstar say?
Tldr;
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected… We want to thank you for your support and your patience.”

What we know so far
- Lucia, the series’ first female protagonist, and her criminal partner, star in the new game
- The map will include the fictional state of Leonida — aka Florida with extra meth
- The first trailer dropped in December 2023 and already hit over 250 million views. Since then… radio silence
- Some said it would launch Fall 2025. Instead… 2026, only for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S
Rockstar has a history of delays (see: Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA V, etc.).
But this time, with social media boiling and Reddit throwing out conspiracies every 3 minutes, things have gone off the rails. Even without new material, the hype refuses to die down.
And that’s where Rockstar thrives. They’ve got us — even if we won’t admit it.
